Dancing With The Doorknob
or
The other day as I was falling off my bicycle…
Tales from 35 years on film and TV sets with a sprinkling of moments from a life well lived.
"What do you do when you identify as a square peg in a world of round holes? For me, a career in entertainment was key." —Charlie O'Dowd
Working in entertainment you’ll find adventure and creative fulfillment as you partner with like-minded princes, princesses, and clowns striving to build a life worth talking about.
For forty years the author bounced from feature films and hit TV shows, live theater, audiobook narration and education, all while dealing with the challenges of a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Dig into this personal and deeply felt account of what it means to be truly “behind the scenes” and helping make it all happen.
"Dancing With The Doorknob could easily be described as a cross between a weight loss guide (because there were times when I laughed my ass off) and a handbook on persistence, resilience and rugged determination.
Charlie’s ability to view the ups and downs of life, the moments that go sideways and the people who helped him along the way is magical. He writes in a way that inspires hope, promotes healing and illustrates the power of gratitude." —Dr. Douglas Meintz, DC, BCN

BOOK EXCERPTS

Bryan Cranston
What can you say about Bryan Cranston? He has a range of believability that stretches across genres. You believe him when he’s a fumbling oaf, creating mayhem with his kids, and you believe him when he stares down drug kingpins.

Breaking Bad Emmy
In 2013, Breaking Bad received the Best Dramatic Series Emmy. The producers, writers and cast joined Vince on stage to accept the award.
The next day in the office, I congratulated Stew on the win. He motioned for me to wait a moment while he stepped into his office. He returned and handed me the Emmy statue, declaring that the entire production team won the award. He had a staff member snap a photo of us together with me holding the Emmy, a great honor !

Iwo Jima
My son Keaton secured permission from the Japanese government to travel to Iwo Jima with a handful of Marines. With permission, he scooped up black sand from the beach where over 6,000 Marines died in battle. A Marine combat photographer captured the moment against the backdrop of Mount Suribachi, made immortal in the photo of Marines raising the flag over the Island.
